Since forming in 1999, Wonderful has been performing their inspired
tunes to an ever-increasing Northwest audience. The band's thoughtful,
yet playful brand of music is a timely arrival to the regional
scene; their electronic/pop/classical-influenced songs continue
to draw audiences at many of Seattle's best-known venues.
The members of Wonderful have been playing together as a band
since 1997 when Noah Weaver joined Jon Khanjian, Peter Sali and
Jason Holstrom as the Lincolns. The Lincolns' fun, accessible
rockabilly won them a first prize in a college talent show, and
led to a West Coast tour in 1998. After the tour, though, the
band found itself wanting to experiment and grow musically in
new ways. Hence Wonderful was born.
Wonderful mixes traditional pop-rock elements with inventive electronic
musings. They draw most of their inspiration from The Flaming
Lips, Weezer, The Beatles, Aphex Twin, My Bloody Valentine, Bjork
and Queen, as well as composers such as Debussy, Ravel, Reich
and Messaien.
The Crocodile, Graceland, Showbox, Sit and Spin and I-Spy have
all given Wonderful the spotlight over the last two years. Fans
and innocent bystanders alike agree that their shows are energized
and driven, showcasing the band's finest form. Their first officially
released CD, "Welcome to Wonderful" was recorded at Bear Creek
Studios with producer Ryan Hadlock (Blonde Redhead, Black Heart
Procession and Twilight Singers).
Wonderful will continue in their mission of striving to make the
most beautiful music the world has heard. They want nothing less
than to continually blaze a new trail and explore the infinite
variety of music. Yet in spite of these ambitions and the larger-than-life
symphonic nature of their music, Wonderful remains refreshingly
unpretentious, driven only by their love of song, and their desire
to reveal that love to their audience.
